Egypt voiced its full solidarity and support on Saturday for King Jordan’s King Abdullah, following Jordanian security forces arrested a former adviser to the monarch and others on “security-related” grounds.

"The Arab Republic of Egypt expresses its full solidarity and support to the sisterly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and its leaders represented by His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, in preserving the security and stability of the Kingdom against any attempts to undermine it," said Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Rady added that "Egypt affirms that the security and stability of brotherly Jordan is an integral part of the Egyptian and Arab national security."

King Abdullah's half-brother and former Crown Prince Hamza bin Hussein was asked to halt actions used to target the country's "security and stability", the military said on Saturday.

In a statement published on the state news agency, it said this was part of a broader, ongoing security investigation in which a former minister, a member of the royal family and unnamed others were detained.
