Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia is prepared to provide $1 billion to the Peace Council to support the Palestinian people, amid ongoing discussions with the United States regarding the possible use of frozen Russian assets for this purpose.

Speaking on the matter, Putin said Moscow remains committed to supporting Palestinians both politically and humanitarianly, stressing that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state remains the only viable path toward a just and lasting resolution of the conflict.

Putin described the Peace Council, launched by U.S. President Donald Trump, as a central platform for addressing the humanitarian and political crisis in Gaza and Palestine more broadly. He emphasized that international cooperation through the council could help stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation.

The Russian president noted that Moscow has continued to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinians during the most difficult stages of the crisis, in addition to training personnel from the Palestinian Authority to strengthen institutional and administrative capacity.

For his part, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed Russia’s position, describing Russian support as “extremely important” at a time when Gaza is facing unprecedented devastation. Abbas said cooperation with Moscow represents a genuine source of hope for achieving peace, stability, and reconstruction.
