Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Western countries had hurt themselves by imposing sanctions on Russia over Ukraine.
Putin added that those sanctions had led to the deterioration of the economy in the West. Speaking about the state of the Russian economy, Putin pointed out that inflation is stabilizing, and the demand for retail goods in the country has returned to normal, Reuters news agency reported.
It is noteworthy that Western countries have imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia's companies and financial system since it sent troops into Ukraine on February 24 in what is called a "special military operation.
The West imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia to punish Putin for invading Ukraine in a military operation that killed thousands, including civilians, and displaced more than 11 million people.
