Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed that India remains one of Russia’s most trusted and strategically important partners in the field of defense and military-technical cooperation, highlighting deep mutual confidence between the two countries.

In an interview with India Today, Putin said India consistently stands out as a “reliable and special partner” when discussing military and defense collaboration.

“You seem to be well-versed in this field, almost as if we’re already negotiating military-technical cooperation,” Putin told the interviewer. “If we look closely at the details, India clearly emerges as one of our most trusted and distinguished partners in this domain.”

Putin stressed that Russia’s willingness to share defense technologies with India, not merely sell them, underscores the depth of trust between Moscow and New Delhi.

“We don’t just sell technology to India; we share it. That is extremely rare in the military-technical sphere,” he said. “It reflects the high level of trust between our countries and our peoples.”

The Russian president added that ensuring stable cooperation across key strategic sectors is essential for achieving shared long-term objectives.

Putin arrived at India’s Palam Air Force Station on Thursday, marking the start of a two-day state visit. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed him on the tarmac, a gesture highlighting the importance of the visit.

In a break from protocol, Putin chose to ride in Modi’s personal vehicle rather than his official Russian Aurus limousine, signaling what observers described as a “special warmth” in the leaders’ relations.

The Russian delegation at the airport included Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin, and Russia’s ambassador to India, Denis Alipov.

Formal Russian–Indian talks are scheduled for Friday in New Delhi, with expectations of a substantial package of bilateral documents and commercial agreements covering multiple sectors.
