After captivating festival audiences with their powerful narratives, compelling performances, and striking visuals, the award-winning Tunisian films "Promised Sky," "Têtes Brûlées," and "Where The Wind Comes From" are set to enchant Egyptian moviegoers this January.
The three films — all distributed by MAD Solutions — will be released across cinemas in Egypt: "Where The Wind Comes From" on January 21st, "Promised Sky" on January 24th, and "Têtes Brûlées" on January 26th.
Promised Sky
Erige Sehiri’s drama feature film "Promised Sky", a co-production between France, Tunisia, and Qatar, stars Aïssa Maïga, Laetitia Ky, Deborah Naney, and Mohamed Grayaa.
It tells the story of Marie, Naney, and Jolie, who live together in Tunisia while sheltering Kenza, a shipwreck survivor. As this unorthodox family forms, crises force each woman to reconsider her place.
Following its acclaimed world premiere as the opening film of Un Certain Regard at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, the film went on to achieve a remarkable triple win at the Festival du Film Francophone d’Angoulême.
It has since toured several international film festivals, including the Mostra de Valencia International Film Festival in Spain — where it won the Best Screenplay Award — and the MedFilm Festival, where it received both the Piuculture Award for Best Film and the Ecumenical Award for Best Film Overall.
Têtes Brûlées
Meanwhile, "Têtes Brûlées" by Maja Ajmia Yde Zellama first met the world at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, premiering in the Generation 14plus Program and earning two Special Mentions from the festival juries for its emotional power and unique voice.
Since then, the film has continued its journey, traveling from Sydney to Barcelona to the Amman International Film Festival, where it had its MENA premiere, touching hearts wherever it goes.
A Belgian production with a Tunisian flavor, "Têtes Brûlées" is a coming-of-age story shaped by tragedy that follows 12-year-old Eya as she comes to grips with the sudden loss of her older brother Younès, with whom she shared an intense and inseparable bond.
Immersed in a deeply codified and intense grieving process, she draws on her creativity, resilience, and the support of Younès’ friends to come to terms with his passing and carve out her own path toward adulthood.
The film stars Safa Gharbaoui, Mehdi Bouziane, Mounir Amamra (Divines), Adnane El Haruati, Saber Tabi, Nicolas Makola, Mehdi Zellama, and Monia Taieb.
Where The Wind Comes From
Lastly, but certainly not least, the comedy film "Where The Wind Comes From" by Amel Guellaty is a co-production between France, Tunisia, and Qatar.
Starring Slim Baccar, Eya Bellagha, Sondos Belhassen, and Lobna Noomane, the film follows 19-year-old Alyssa and shy 23-year-old Mehdi as they dream of escaping their reality. Upon discovering a contest offering a chance to flee, they embark on a road trip to southern Tunisia, overcoming several obstacles along the way.
Fresh off its booming world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, "Where The Wind Comes From" has made its way to major international festivals, including Rotterdam and Istanbul, receiving wide critical acclaim.
The film also won the Golden Bee for Best Film and the Best Performance Award for Eya Bellagha at the Malta Mediterranean Film Festival and the Best Narrative Feature Award at the Toronto Arab Film Festival during its international tour.
