Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt’s Prime Minister, arrived earlier on Monday at Al-Mosheer Tantawy Mosque to offer condolences to the family of the late Mofid Shehab, former Minister of Higher Education and former President of Cairo University.
Also present at the mosque to pay respects was Gohar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, alongside many public figures, academics, and officials.
Dr. Mofid Shehab was widely regarded as one of Egypt’s most prominent legal scholars and public servants. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Alexandria University with top honors, ranking first in his class, before embarking on a distinguished academic and public career.
Throughout his career, Shehab held several senior positions, including President of Cairo University and Minister of Higher Education. He also played a key national role as a member of Egypt’s National Committee on Taba between 1985 and 1988, and as part of Egypt’s legal defense team before the International Arbitration Court in Geneva in the Taba case from 1986 to 1988.
The landmark arbitration ruling resulted in the return of Taba to Egyptian sovereignty, a moment widely regarded as a major legal and diplomatic victory for Egypt. Dr. Shehab authored numerous legal works and participated extensively in international arbitration forums and academic conferences.
