Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Egypt remains a central partner in maintaining regional stability and has consistently supported Lebanon through multiple crises.

In a televised interview, Aoun thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for backing Lebanon’s army and institutions. He described Egypt as a major regional power and a unifying force for Arab states.

He noted Lebanon’s interest in drawing on Egypt’s economic experience, particularly in reconstruction and military support, and confirmed plans to revive the Egyptian-Lebanese Higher Joint Committee to expand cooperation.

Aoun stated that Lebanon is working to build a free, sovereign state with independent decision-making. He said that current government reforms serve this objective and reflect internal priorities, not external pressures.

He noted positive signs in tourism and economic indicators after 100 days of the current government, affirming Lebanon’s ongoing commitment to economic reform as a national need.

On national security, Aoun reiterated the state’s responsibility for arms control, referring to the principle as part of the presidential oath, the Taif Agreement, and the government’s policy statement. He said the process will move forward without haste, acknowledging that a specific timeline is not yet set.

He stressed that internal dialogue is the only viable path to resolving national issues, including the weapons file, and reaffirmed the state's role in holding the sole authority over decisions of war and peace.
