The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said that a fire broke out in one of the transformers of the Itay Al Barud station, in Beheira Governorate, due to an “electrical fault” that resulted in two transformers being out of service.
The fault led to the disconnection of the electrical supply from some villages in the city of Damanhour and its suburbs.
The Ministry added, in a statement, that as soon as the civil protection forces intervened and disconnected the power from the station, electrical power was restored to all buildings and vital facilities, including hospitals, water stations, and others, within just 15 minutes.
The ministry's statement said: "The fire has been brought under control and the station's transformers are being restarted. Alternative power sources have been provided and electricity has been restored to most of the areas that were damaged as a result of the station being out of service."
It explained that mobile emergency generators were used to work in some villages, until they were fed from the electrical grid again.
