Poultry Prices Drop EGP 6 Despite Ramadan's Increase in Demand

Poultry prices dropped EGP 6 in Egypt's retail market despite the increase in demand. This comes as the government imported big amounts ahead of the holy month of Ramadan to contain soaring prices.

Prices recorded their highest rate of increase during 2021, recording EGP 30 for white poultry in farms, while the backyard registered EGP 38.

A poultry trader said that the prices of white poultry ranged from EGP 30-31, down EGP 7 from the beginning of the week, while the backyard chicken recorded about EGP 40-41.

He pointed out that prices are declining, especially after the increase in the supply of poultry over the past three days.

Abdelaziz Al-Sayed, head of the poultry wealth pision of the Egyptian Chambers of Commerce said that the price of poultry has declined in the farms during the current period, indicating that the current price per kilo reaches 25 pounds.

Abdel Aziz Al-Sayed, Head of Poultry Wealth Division at Cairo Chamber of Commerce said that the price of eggs is witnessing an increase by EGP 1, reaching EGP 31.5 for the basket of ten eggs.

The volume of investments in the Egyptian poultry market is about EGP 90 billion, and 3 million people work in the sector, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture.

Al-Sayed pointed out that the markets have witnessed a rise in prices ahead of Ramadan, and is expected to rise again in the feast "Eid Al-Fitr".

According to data issued by the Chambers of Commerce, Egypt produces 1.6 billion birds annually, while the volume of egg production reaches 13 billion eggs, and the average per capita share of poultry is about 20 kg.
