Poland’s Ministry of Defense announced the opening of the first permanent US military base, in the Polish city of Poznan, today, Tuesday.
The ministry said in its statement that the opening ceremony of the US military base will be held today where the Polish regional support team ASG-P will be transferred to a US military base, US Army Garrison Poland, USAG-P, with the participation of Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
The ministry indicated that the US military base was established, based on US President Joe Biden's decision for the year 2022, with the aim of "supporting the infrastructure of US forces stationed in Poland, and commanding and managing the advanced sites of US forces there."
The main mission of the base is to coordinate and supervise US ground forces in Europe, operational planning, and coordinate cooperation and synchronization between US forces and the forces of other NATO countries, according to the ministry.
The US "garrison" base in Poland is the 8th permanent garrison of US forces in Europe, and its first permanent garrison in Poland, where nearly 10,000 soldiers from NATO countries are currently stationed in the European country, the majority of whom are Americans.
