Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt ranks first in Africa for internet speed for the fifth consecutive year and is the second-cheapest country on the continent for internet service. He noted that the government aims to double internet speed and capacity in the coming period.

During his weekly press conference following the Cabinet meeting, Madbouly said the state continues to invest heavily in expanding fixed internet access to households. He explained that Egypt is replacing outdated copper lines with fiber-optic cables under the “Decent Life” initiative, ensuring that every home in rural areas has access to reliable, high-speed internet.

The Prime Minister also said that Egypt’s “Digital Egypt” platform now provides more than 200 online public services. He urged citizens to use these services through the digital platform instead of visiting government offices, adding that a plan will soon be implemented to make certain services exclusively available online.

On tourism, Madbouly said Egypt’s goal of attracting 30 million tourists annually will require an additional 240,000 to 250,000 hotel rooms, bringing total accommodation capacity to over half a million rooms. He said the government is supporting the hospitality sector through financing initiatives and measures to convert residential buildings into hotels, particularly in Cairo and other major cities.

He added that the new rooms will be distributed across key tourist destinations in cooperation with the private sector, alongside plans to expand airports. Cairo International Airport will see the construction of a new terminal—its fourth—equal in capacity to the existing three combined, to handle a higher volume of international tourist flights.
