Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has agreed to end a ban on healthcare workers traveling abroad, the labor secretary said Saturday.
This will pave the way for thousands of nurses to work abroad.
"The president has already agreed to lift the temporary suspension of travel for nurses and other medical workers abroad," Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello told Reuters.
Bello said that to ensure the Philippines has enough medical personnel to combat COVID-19, only 5,000 of those workers will be allowed to leave the country annually
Philippines has the second largest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Southeast Asia.
