Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given his opinion regarding Mohamed Salah’s COVID-19 infection with Egypt, stating, in defence of the Egyptian International, that the player is scheduled to return to England today.

Liverpool is preparing for their ninth round fixture in the Premier League against Leicester City, but they will have to play without their star player.

Salah contracted coronavirus while on national duty with Egypt. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirming last Friday that Salah tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing two consecutive tests.

As a result, Salah was ruled out of two victories against Togo in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“He [Salah] is probably back today. In close contact and how it always is. He’s in a good place, feels well. No symptoms. Nothing to say in public about it,” Klopp said in the pre-match press conference.

"Salah was filmed attending his brother wedding upon his arrival in Egypt, which is believed to be the event where he caught the virus from," Klopp stated.

“I’ve been in close contact with him. A brother’s wedding is a very special moment. In the summer I was in Germany, a friend moved his birthday party because of me. Fifty people were there and at the last minute I decided not to go."

“In other countries there’s more social pressure and a brother wedding is a special moment. My players are incredibly disciplined. Sometimes it doesn’t work out like this. The rest if between Mo and me – we have done that already. Things are fine.”
