The Palestinian Presidency welcomed the decision issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the highest international judicial body, regarding the legal consequences of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land since 1967.
The presidency - in a statement reported by the Palestinian News Agency “Wafa” - considered the court’s decision a victory for justice, as the decision affirmed that the Israeli occupation is illegal, and that Israel must stop its occupation and end its presence in the Palestinian territories, immediately stop any settlement activity, evacuate the settlers, and compensate for material and moral losses for people in the occupied Palestinian territories.
It called on the international community to oblige Israel, the occupying power, to end its occupation and its colonial project completely and immediately, without restrictions or conditions.
It considered the decision of the International Court of Justice, which affirmed the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and their right to their land and state, to be a rejection of the occupation, the recent Israeli Knesset decision, and the American policies that support Israel in its occupation and reject the establishment of a Palestinian state.
