Palestinian Foreign Minister Farsin Shaheen affirmed that Egypt continues to play a pivotal role in securing a sustainable ceasefire that safeguards the rights and interests of the Palestinian people, emphasizing Cairo’s longstanding commitment to the Palestinian cause in all international forums.
In remarks to Egyptian media, Shaheen said Egypt has been instrumental in mediating between all parties to ensure the implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement and to pave the way for broader political stability in the region.
She noted that Cairo closely monitors developments related to the Trump peace plan, insisting that any future framework must align with four key principles: compliance with international law and the outcomes of the New York Conference; recognition of Palestine as a single, unified geographic entity; the protection of the Palestinian people’s unity; and financial backing for the Palestinian Authority through a donor conference led by Egypt.
Shaheen added that signing the agreement in Sharm El-Sheikh in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump gives it a formal international standing and reaffirms Egypt’s central role and unwavering support for the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, **a senior Hamas official** told *Agence France-Presse (AFP)* that the movement will begin **releasing hostages on Monday morning**, as part of the first phase of measures linked to the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire arrangement.
The planned release is seen as a key step in building trust between the parties and advancing the broader implementation of the ceasefire and humanitarian commitments agreed upon under Egyptian mediation.
The developments reflect Egypt’s continued diplomatic leadership in the peace process and its efforts to ensure both the stabilization of the Gaza situation and the revival of a comprehensive political dialogue based on the two-state framework.
