His Eminence the Grand Imam, Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, received today, at his office, Federal Minister of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain on the sidelines of 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs being held in Cairo, Egypt.
Ambassador of Pakistan to Egypt Sajid Bilal and senior officials from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif were present during the meeting.
The Federal Minister briefed Sheikh of Al-Azhar about the efforts of the government towards Interfaith harmony aimed at peace, brotherhood, and amity in Pakistan. The Federal Minister apprised the Grand Imam that the government and people of Pakistan hold His Eminence in high respect and recalled with pleasure the cherished memories during the Grand Imam's one-year stay in Pakistan.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain also discussed further avenues of cooperation with Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in promoting the inherently peaceful, progressive, and welfare-oriented interpretation of Islam.
The Federal Minister also discussed grave dangers to regional and global peace and stability posed by the situation in Gaza and IIOJK.
The Grand Imam welcomed and appreciated the Federal Minister's participation in the Conference in Cairo.
The Grand Imam also welcomed the proposal by the Federal Minister for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Al-Azhar in spreading peaceful and progressive thoughts.
It was agreed to accelerate the existing cooperation with continued interaction in the months ahead. Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain extended an invitation to the Grand Imam to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.
