Egypt’s Ministry of Culture broadcast Thursday performance by legendary musician Omar Khairat on its official YouTube channel, as a part of e-initiative "Stay at home ... Culture is in your hands".

It topped the platform and gained 280 thousand viewers in just two hours, which managed to collect over half a million views so far, and became Trend no.1 on YouTube and Twitter.

The performance featured Khairat performing many masterpieces including “Mafia”, “Sleeping in Honey”, “Take Care of Your Mind”, “Aum Mohamed case”, and “the cheap and I”.

Egypt’s Ministry of Culture e-initiative "Stay at home ... Culture is in your hands" aims to bring cultural events to audiences online amid the current shutdown of theatres, cinemas, and concert halls to stem the spread of the coronavirus pandemic as well as to spread optimism, positive energy, and lift people's spirits up.

The initiative offers to the public the ministry’s artistic records for the first time, especially the live performances that the public is denied from attending for nearly 3 weeks when the ministry announced the suspension of all activities involving public gatherings.

The ministry’s official social media networking sites daily broadcast many cultural events including Omar Khairat concerts and nights of the Arab Music Festival.

The channel launched with Syrian superstar’s latest concert at the Arab Music Festival, as well as a number of theatrical performances and concerts, including the hologram performance of Egyptian icon Umm Kulthum.

The Ministry of Culture progremme also includes ballet performances such as “The Nutcracker”, “Zorba”, “Swan Lake”, and “Carmen”.
