Authorities in Old Cairo have launched a large-scale beautification campaign around the historic Amr Ibn Al-As Mosque and Hassan Al-Anwar Street.
The initiative aims to enhance the area surrounding one of Cairo’s most significant mosques, which draws thousands of worshippers for Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan.
As part of the campaign, officials cleared all street obstructions, thoroughly washed Hassan Al-Anwar Street, and improved the overall cleanliness of the neighborhood. The efforts were carried out under the directives of Ashraf Nour, head of Old Cairo district, as part of an ongoing initiative to maintain public spaces.
Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Deputy Governor of Cairo, had earlier instructed district authorities to intensify cleaning efforts around major mosques that host large gatherings for evening prayers during the holy month.
His directives emphasize the importance of maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for worshippers.
Amr Ibn Al-As Mosque, the first mosque built in Egypt and Africa, holds immense historical and religious significance.
The recent beautification campaign reflects the government’s broader commitment to preserving Cairo’s cultural heritage while ensuring a comfortable and dignified space for both worshippers and visitors.
