The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H.E. Hissein Brahim Taha, welcomed the decision by the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia to recognize the State of Palestine.
This historic step is fully aligned with the principles of international law and relevant UN resolutions. It also constitutes strong support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders, with Al-Quds as its capital.
The Secretary-General renewed the OIC’s call on all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so and to support its full membership in the United Nations.
This comes in line with the international community’s responsibility to end the Israeli occupation and to achieve peace and stability in the region in accordance with international legitimacy and the implementation of the two-state solution.
