The New Zealand Embassy in Cairo condemns the terrorist attack in Manial and mourns the tragic loss of 20 innocent lives, the embassy said in a statement.

"We send out our deepest condolences to families of the victims and we wish a speedy recovery for those injured," it added.

"The New Zealand Embassy in Cairo stands with Egypt against terrorism," it concluded.

It is worthy to mention that, an explosives-laden car belonging to a terrorist group blew up late Sunday, outside The National cancer institute in Al-Manial neighbourhood, resulting in the death of 20 people and the injury of 48 others.

Egypt’s interior ministry revealed on Monday that the deadly blast took place when an explosives-filled car collided with three other vehicles near the National Cancer Institute.

The Ministry said that a blast outside the Institute, located in El Manial area, caused damage to facilities inside the Institute.

The Ministry  added that it had evacuated patients from the Institute following the blast.

On the other hand, the Interior Ministry announced that the blast occurred before midnight and was caused by a car driving outside the Institute in the opposite direction before colliding with up to three other vehicles.

The General Prosecutor ordered an urgent investigation into the causes of the blast.

European Union (EU) ambassador to Egypt Ivan Surkos denounced the terrorist blast, reiterating The EU’s solidarity with Egypt in the fight against terrorism.

“I strongly condemn this deplorable terrorist act that caused the death of 20 innocent people and the injury of 50,” Surkos tweets.

“EU stands side by side with Egypt,” he added.
