It has been nine years since the release of the first movie of the Keanu Reeves-led John Wick franchise.

The ground-breaking action franchise has managed to keep the throne of best action IP due to its breathtaking set pieces and extremely creative ways the titular character kills his enemies.

Earlier this month, "John Wick: Chapter 4" hit the theatres and had a franchise-best opening weekend, raking in $73.5 million in the US and $64 million worldwide, bringing in a total of $137.5 million.

The installment was supposedly the final chapter for Reeves and director Chad Stahelski.

Stahelski previously voiced that he and Reeves wanted to give the franchise "a rest" after Chapter 4.

However, Lionsgate released a statement saying that they were not "ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise" and that there are "a lot of different things that we can do".

As the door is still open for more stories, producer Erica Lee expressed her optimism that the duo will return for another entry.

In a recent interview with Collider, Lee revealed that Lionsgate is developing a new movie in the John Wick universe.

“There is another film that we're developing that I think we'll be announcing in the next, say, month or two," she said.

"Then, I'm hopeful there's a ‘Ballerina 2,’ and ‘John Wick 5,’ and lots of other things. But we're developing a lot of stuff and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand management and Wick universe is my utmost priority.”

There are two John Wick spin-offs currently in the works: the female-centric film "Ballerina" and the prequel mini-series "The Continental".

"Ballerina" stars Ana de Armas as Rooney, a dancer-turned-assassin for the ruthless Ruska Roma crime family who seeks revenge against those who murdered her family.

Reeves, the late Lance Reddick, Anjelica Huston, and Ian McShane are all expected to make cameos in the movie. "Ballerina" is slated for a 2024 spring/summer release.

Set in 1970s New York City, "The Continental" will focus on a younger version of McShane’s Winston, the owner of the famous hotel for assassins, and how it came to be that he and his team of confederates found their way into the hotel.

The spin-off is set for a September release on Peacock.
