Lebanese actress, Nadine Nassib Njeim had been injured during the devastating blast that ripped through Beirut on August 4, killing over 135 people and injuring thousands.

The explosion occurred near the residence of former Miss Lebanon 2004, best known for starring in TV series such as ‘Al Hayba’ and ‘Khamse W Noss’, who was alone on her balcony after her children went on a visit to her ex-husband Hady Asmar.

Njeim was reported missing after the blast, but soon, her sister, Rima Njeim, took to Twitter to share updates about the actress, stating that she was injured during the attack and is recovering after a six-hour surgery.

“To everyone who asks me about Nadine Nassib Njeim, she was hurt by the blast. She underwent a long surgery that lasted 6 hours.” she wrote.

Njeim underwent surgery to remove shreds of glass from her face, neck, and on the bottom of her feet, which occurred after she went barefoot on the road.

The actress resurfaced online on August 5, detailing her terrifying escape from the wreckage, along with a video of her damaged home.

Njeim expressed her gratitude to God for saving and protecting her as well as for not having her children at home during the time of the explosion.

On August 7, the actress underwent another surgery on her nose after suffering a nasal fracture, which lasted for an hour and a half, ET bel Arabi reported.

'Leaving Lebanon'

The actress revealed Sunday her decision to leave her home country, Lebanon, after the massive explosion.

Njeim revealed on Twitter that she is planning to leave Lebanon, deeming the country unsafe.

"From this moment, in the hospital, I have made a decision. I will leave the country and live in the safety of another country that respects its people. This is better than staying in a country ruled by fear and death." she tweeted on Twitter.

The massive explosion erupted at Beirut Port with a huge mushroom cloud that Lebanese officials said came from a stockpile of over 2,750 kilograms of ammonium nitrate in a warehouse at the port.

Beirut’s governor said over 300,000 people have been left homeless. Damages are estimated at up to $5 billion.

On August 5, the Lebanese government declared a state of emergency for two weeks in Beirut in the wake of the devastating explosions rocked the capital.

During Lebanon’s cabinet meeting, an order was issued for putting an unspecified number of Beirut port officials under house arrest pending an investigation into how 2750 tons of ammonium nitrate came to be stored at the port for years.

The move comes amid speculation that negligence was to blame for the explosion.

On his part, Diab said that what happened “a great catastrophe that struck Lebanon,” adding that a quick process of repairing damages and providing urgent aid to help people has been initiated.

The prime minister also called upon “All political forces (Lebanese) to stop the confrontations and focus on addressing the repercussions of the explosion.”

On the other hand, the United Nations (UN) Security Council will hold an emergency meeting today, Monday on the massive explosion. The session was requested by the Arab group to discuss the repercussions of this blast.
