The South Korean military reported that North Korea launched several cruise missiles off its east coast on Wednesday.
According to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, the launches were detected around 9:00 AM local time near the eastern city of Wonsan, although the exact number of missiles was not specified.
In a text message sent to journalists, the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, "As we enhance our surveillance and vigilance, our military is closely coordinating with the United States to monitor any additional signals for North Korean provocations."
South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that this marks the fifth occasion this year that Pyongyang has launched cruise missiles.
