"Mortal Kombat" Sequel in Development

New Line is working on developing a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster movie "Mortal Kombat", based on the video game franchise of the same title.

The sequel will be penned by Jeremy Slater.

The video game phenomenon was created by Ed Boon and John Tobias.

"Mortal Kombat" debuted simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max in April 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic, opening at No. 1 at the box office and ranking among the top movie titles on HBO Max since the platform launched.

The movie was directed by Simon McQuoid, who also produced alongside Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh, and Wan.

It revolved around an MMA fighter seeking Earth’s greatest champions to stand against the enemies of Outworld. It was a battle for the universe.
