Zamalek's president Mortada Mansour blasted on Tuesday the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after its decision to restage the White Knights' clash against Generation Foot in the Champions League.
"Zamalek have the right to qualify for the group stage after the Senegalese club withdrawal, from Borg Al Arab encounter, but I am very confident that the Whites will defeat the Senegalese club, advancing to the last 16," Mansour said.
"CAF's decision is unfair because the game was delayed due to security concerns in the capital," the White Knights' president added.
"I am confident that Zamalek will be able to secure the victory against the Senegalese club because we have the right to advance to the group stage," Mansour remarked.
Earlier today, the Confederation of African Football’s competition committee decided to restage the Champions League match between Egypt’s Zamalek and Senegal’s Generation Foot in Cairo.
Chihu Deco, a member of the CAF Competition Committee, said that both clubs are wrong, so the encounter should be replayed. The CAF did not give any further information about the date of the game.
The Whites were due to host the Senegalese side at Cairo’s Petro Sport Stadium on Saturday, September 29 , but the match was moved to Alexandria’s Borg Al Arab Stadium a day later for claimed security reasons presented by Zamalek in an official letter to CAF.
The crisis sparkled after the Senegalese club refused to head to Alexandria, where both teams were set to play the game at Borg Al Arab Stadium, and they withdrew from the White Knights’ encounter in the second leg of the last 32.
