Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass gave a lecture on modern archaeological discoveries at the Archaeological Society of Alexandria.

Hawass hailed Egypt's archaeologists, saying that Egypt has become skilled in this field which makes them no less than their foreign counterparts.

Hawass pointed out that he is now digging in the Saqqara area, in addition to important discoveries that will be announced soon in cooperation with an Egyptian mission from the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

He also mentioned that the recent Saqqara discovery had a global impact all over the world, noting that when he took over the Ministry of Antiquities in 2002 for 10 years, the situation was completely different from what it is now.

"We were servants of foreigners, and that is why I started founding schools in order to train them in excavation and restoration,” he stated. “We had 500 people graduates at the highest level, and we had distinguished young men who were no less than foreigners."

"The last discovery of Saqqara is very important as it gives more information about the religion, and the embalming of the bodies in the twenty-sixth Pharaonic family,” he said.

“Saqqara contains thousands of coffins as it was a burial site in one of the periods of the Pharaohs, including the largest cemetery in the late era that occurred in Egypt.”

Speaking of the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Egyptologist said, “It is the largest cultural project in the 21st century, and the opening of this museum is awaited by the whole world.”

The Egyptologist also mentioned that people ask him about the opening of the museum whenever he goes out of the country, and he replies that “We are waiting for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s signal to open it when it is finished.”

The Egyptologist explained that he is preparing a team of intellectuals to demand the return of Nefertiti to Egypt.
