The Customs Authority revealed, through "Telephony" website for registering mobile phones imported from outside Egypt, that the only case in which the 38.5% fee on mobile phones is exempted is for foreigners coming to Egypt with mobile devices activated with non-Egyptian SIM cards, regardless of the duration of their stay in the country.
According to "Telephony" website, the payment of customs fees due on mobile phones imported from abroad will only be done through the application or from within the customs department for those coming from abroad upon their arrival.
The website also noted that no fees should be paid except through the official channels announced on the official website, and that no fees will be applied on phones carrying foreign SIM cards, or Egyptian SIM cards for a period of 3 months.
