FIFA will observe a minute of silence before Tuesday's 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final between France and Spain to commemorate the victims of the 2016 Nice terror attack, following a request from the French government.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the tribute in a post on X on Monday, thanking FIFA President Gianni Infantino for approving the request ahead of the match.
"Before France-Spain, a minute of silence will be observed in tribute to the victims of the Nice attack, ten years after July 14, 2016," Macron wrote.

"Thank you to the President of FIFA for responding to the request of France and of all French people who have mobilized. We will never forget."
The tribute comes on the 10th anniversary of the Bastille Day attack in Nice, when a truck was deliberately driven into crowds celebrating France's national day on July 14, 2016, killing 86 people and injuring hundreds more.
France will face Spain in the second World Cup semi-final on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to Sunday's final.
