Egypt’s military spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Gharib Abdel Hafez, has categorically denied reports circulating on social media alleging that officers of the Egyptian Armed Forces were granted special privileges in violation of the constitution and the law.
In an official statement, Abdel Hafez said the General Command of the Armed Forces had monitored documents circulated over the past hours on certain social media platforms, which were falsely claimed to be linked to the military. He noted that these materials were disseminated by accounts affiliated with hostile elements abroad, as part of ongoing attempts to spread confusion, misinformation, and rumors.
The spokesperson explained that those behind the claims deliberately included the names of individuals who had retired from the Armed Forces or left military service long ago, in an effort to lend false credibility to the allegations.
The Armed Forces’ General Command firmly rejected the claims contained in the documents, stressing that no privileges have been granted to military officers in contravention of constitutional or legal provisions. Such allegations, the statement said, are fundamentally inconsistent with the principles and values of a long-established national institution committed to safeguarding citizens’ dignity, preserving national security and stability, and supporting all state bodies in the equal application of the law without discrimination.
The statement urged citizens not to be misled by irresponsible content, to exercise caution, and to rely exclusively on information issued through the official page of the military spokesperson as the sole credible source of military-related news.
Reaffirming its position, the Armed Forces emphasized that “your army is the army of the people, drawn from their ranks and from the soil of this enduring homeland, fully committed to the constitution and the rule of law, and it will remain a shield and sword to protect Egypt and its people.”
The statement concluded with the message: “May God protect Egypt, its people, and its Armed Forces.”
