Michael Jordan's famous North Carolina Tar Heels basketball jersey sold for $ 1.38 million Saturday by Heritage Auctions.

The jersey was matched with photos for the 1982-1983 season, when Jordan won the NCAA Best Player award from Sporting News, and is the same shirt he wore on the magazine cover after winning the award.

The sale broke the previous record for a Jordan jersey, also set by Heritage in October, when a game-worn Chicago Bulls Jordan jersey from the 1986-87 season sold for $480,000.

This is the second time a Jordan jersey is sold on auction. In October, a 1986-1987 Chicago Bulls Jordan jersey, also set by Heritage, was sold for $480,000, yet, this time the price almost triples.
