Mexico’s Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced his country's readiness to grant asylum to isolated Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, but it has not yet received any request in this regard.

"As far as I know, no," Ebrard said in an interview with Mexican radio "Formula", in response to a question about whether Castillo had approached the Mexican authorities with a request to be granted asylum.

He added that he has taken a positive position on granting asylum; however, no one has submitted this request. Mexico would not object if Castillo requested that.

It is noteworthy that the Peruvian parliament dismissed President Pedro Castillo on Wednesday, in the wake of his attempt to dissolve Parliament and declare a state of emergency in the country.

Peruvian prosecutors have accused Castillo of exceeding his powers and attempting a coup. The police arrested him.
