Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to extend his contract through 2031, ensuring he will remain in charge of the reigning world champions for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

According to reports, Scaloni requested that the Argentine Football Association delay the official announcement until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, allowing the team's full focus to remain on its title defense in North America.

His current contract runs through the end of the 2026 tournament, with the new agreement adding another four years.

The extension reflects the federation's confidence in the 48-year-old coach, who has overseen one of the most successful periods in Argentina's football history.

Since taking charge in 2018, Scaloni has transformed La Albiceleste into a dominant force, winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup, back-to-back Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024, and the Finalissima.

Scaloni's record with Argentina has been equally impressive. In 99 matches as national team coach, he has guided the team to 72 victories, 18 draws, and only nine defeats.

His 100th match in charge is expected to come during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The new deal also provides long-term stability as Argentina prepares for the 2030 World Cup, a historic tournament that will feature centennial celebration matches in Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay to mark 100 years since the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930.

By extending Scaloni's tenure, the Argentine Football Association is signaling its commitment to continuity beyond the current generation of stars.

With the 2030 tournament expected to usher in a new era for the national team, Scaloni is set to play a key role in building Argentina's next generation while aiming to keep the Albiceleste among world football's elite.
