The capital city of Tripoli and other Libyan cities are suffering from a crisis of power outages for long hours a day, which weighs on the Libyans, especially with the intensification of the summer heat.

This prompted Libyan citizens in Tripoli, where power outages last about 10 hours a day, to take to streets in demonstrations against the Government of National Accord (GNA), which they hold responsible for the crisis, and accuse them of failing to solve the electricity crisis.

In the summer, in particular, the suffering of Libyans in Tripoli increases due to the power outage.

As for the daytime, the people of the Libyan capital are accustomed to the noise of electric generators, despite their high prices, in order to conduct their daily lives and their business activities.

Libyans accuse the General Electricity Company, which is affiliated with the GNA, led by Fayez al-Sarraj, of being behind the frequent power outage crisis.

During the past days, some Tripoli neighborhoods suffered from power cuts for more than 20 hours, which provoked dozens of angry citizens to demonstrate, in front of the GNA’s headquarters in the Libyan capital.

The escalating electricity crisis has become for years, and despite the millions that were spent in the past to solve it without success, raise doubts of many about the Sarraj’s government’s intentional release of prolonged hours of power outages, opening the door to another Turkish exploitation.

Experts told Sky News Arabia that “The Turkish exploitation of the power outage crisis may be done through buying generators from the black market from dealers loyal to the GNA, or through the Turkish terminal project, which will generate significant financial returns for Ankara.”
