Libya's Electoral Comm.: 4,326 Candidates Run for HoR Elections

The Libyan High National Elections Commission announced that the number of candidates applying for membership in the next parliament has increased to 4,326 candidates.

The commission said - according to the Libyan News Agency (WAL) - in a statistic of the candidate registration process, that the total number of candidates for the election of the House of Representatives (HoR) in all electoral districts amounted to 4,326 male and female candidates.

In another context, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations announced the appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to the American Stephanie Williams as a special advisor on Libya.

In turn, the former UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salame, a Lebanese diplomat, thanked the Secretary-General of the United Nations for his decision to return Stephanie Williams to the position of responsibility in Libya, praising her wisdom and capabilities.

Salame added that he wishes her all success in carrying out her mission for the common good of Libya and its people.

The final list of candidates for the Libyan presidential elections is supposed to be announced today, Tuesday.

But these lists were postponed due to the emergency session that will be held by the Libyan HoR tomorrow, Wednesday, in the city of Tobruk, in the presence of the President of the Commission Imad Al-Sayeh.

On the second of December, the High National Elections Commission in Libya announced the closure of the door for candidacy for the presidential elections, after the submission of nearly 80 candidates who are scheduled to run in the electoral race on December 24.

On the same day the candidacy door closed, 14 candidates, including one woman, submitted their candidacy papers to the branches of the Commission.
