Renowned Egypt actress Lubna Abdelaziz is celebrating her 87th birthday today, Nov. 20.
The classic actress of the bygone era featured in a number of successful films and timeless classics, including ‘ Ana Horra‘, 'Wa Islamah', Slalom, and Bride of the Nile.
Often referred to as “Aroset El Nile,” she was born in Cairo in 1935 to the notable Egyptian author Hamed Abdelaziz.
Abdelaziz made her showbiz debut as a young radio presenter with the European Program.
After a while, she was once noticed by the maven Egyptian filmmaker Nagiub Ramsis for her charm and innocence; she was selected to play the lead role in his film ‘El Wesadah El Khaliyah' (1957), starring Abdelhalim Hafiz and Omar El-Hariry.
At the beginning of the 60s, filmmakers began to realize that the public’s taste had changed and began to produce relatively good family drama movies, which continued throughout the 1970s. Another factor was the emergence of actresses who fitted this kind of drama, such as Zubaida Tharwat, Laila Taher, and naturally Lubna Abdel-Aziz.
Among these remarkable actresses, she was the most suitable to ride the tide of family drama, reflecting her distinctive charm in the films of this period.
At that time, she managed to embody the character of a cute girl in 'El Wesadah El Khaliyah' (1957 ), and ' Gharam el assiad' (1961).
Throughout her long-standing career, the iconic actress was given many awards for her immense contribution to Egyptian cinema, including Egypt's Art Order, and the Cairo International Film Festival award. She also won a prestigious award at Afro-Asian International Film Festival Award during her career, which spanned over four decades.
She also wrote for Ahram Weekly newspaper and as an intern for AUC newspaper.
Abdelaziz was married twice, the first to the filmmaker Ramsis who was her father's friend. They got married in the USA. Then to Ismail Brada a doctor that she loved very much as she said to the press.
