Latifa Bint Alaya El Arfaoui, best known as Latifa, was born on February 14, 1961, in Manouba, Tunisia.

The acclaimed singer is considered one of the Arab World’s most talented singers. She got her chance after composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab heard her on the radio.

In 1983, shortly after her father passed away, the Tunisian superstar and her family took a trip to Egypt to rest and mourn, during which she met composer Baligh Hamdi, who advised her to move to Egypt for the sake of her career.

However, Latifa wanted to concentrate on her education and returned to Tunisia to finish her high school final exams.

She could not go back to Egypt due to financial issues and attended college in Tunisia. Her family decided to help her make her dream come true by sending her to Egypt, so she quit college in Tunisia and joined the Arab Academy of Music in Egypt, from which she earned her bachelor’s degree.

Latifa got her chance after composer Mohammed Abdel Wahab heard her on the radio. After two days went to the Academy to learn more about her. She was speechless after learning that he wanted to speak with her.

At the time, she primarily performed long Tarab songs but was interested in doing something new, so she began to work with composer Ammar El Sherei and poet Abdulwahab Mohamed, whom she met during her first visit to Egypt.
