A high-level Turkish parliamentary delegation of 30 members visited Egypt last week, marking the largest such visit in history, in a show of solidarity with the people of Gaza amid the ongoing war, famine, and humanitarian crisis.
The delegation, headed by Hasan Basri Yalçın, Deputy Chairman of the Justice and Development Party for Human Rights, included representatives from various political parties in the Turkish parliament. They were accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yılmaz and Turkish Ambassador to Cairo Salih Mutlu Şen.
During their visit to Cairo, the delegation held meetings in Egypt’s House of Representatives and Senate. Talks with Karim Darwish, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Hazem Omar, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, focused on Egyptian-Turkish cooperation and the shared stance of both countries on Gaza. Officials underlined the full alignment of Cairo and Ankara in calling for an immediate ceasefire and expanded humanitarian access.
The delegation later traveled to North Sinai, where they were warmly received at El-Arish Airport by Governor Khaled Megahed. Discussions centered on Egypt’s mediation efforts to stop the fighting and its role in facilitating humanitarian aid to Gaza.
From there, the Turkish delegation visited the Rafah border crossing, where they delivered statements to international and Turkish media.
They called for Israel to open the crossing to allow uninterrupted humanitarian aid flows, to end starvation in Gaza, and to halt what they described as ongoing massacres and genocide. The delegation also expressed gratitude to Egyptian authorities for their cooperation in organizing the visit.
H.E. Ambassador Salih Mutlu Şen, in remarks posted on his official X and Facebook pages, thanked Governor Megahed for the warm welcome and praised his efforts to support Gaza with humanitarian assistance.
The visit, arranged through close coordination between the foreign ministries of Egypt and Turkey, underscored a renewed spirit of cooperation between the two regional powers as they jointly push for a ceasefire and greater humanitarian relief for Palestinians in Gaza.
