KSA secured a convincing 3–0 victory over Puerto Rico in a friendly match early this morning as part of their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off next Thursday in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
KSA national football team scored through Sultan Mandash, Abdullah Al-Hamdan, and Salem Al-Dawsari in the 45th, 51st, and 88th minutes respectively.
The match, however, was briefly disrupted in the 21st minute after weather protocols were activated due to thunderstorm warnings.
The referee halted play as a precaution under strict U.S. safety regulations, requiring both teams to leave the pitch at “Q2 Stadium” in Texas.
Players were taken to dressing rooms while fans were moved to safe areas inside the stadium. The match resumed after a temporary delay of around 30 minutes.
KSA are preparing for a tough Group 8 campaign at the World Cup, where they will face Uruguay, Spain, and Cape Verde.
The interruption highlights concerns about extreme weather conditions potentially affecting matches during the tournament, with U.S. regulations requiring suspension of play if lightning is detected within a 13 km radius of the stadium, with play only resuming after a clear 30-minute safety window.
