The Korean Cultural Center will launch its first cultural week this year to provide an opportunity for the Egyptian public to experience and taste Korean culture closely.

The cultural week will be inaugurated tomorrow (22nd May) with the opening of the Traditional Korean Art Gallery at the Adam Hanin Hall, Al- Hangar Cultural Center at the Opera House, featuring a number of art works that reflect the richness and persity of South Korean traditional arts.

10 Korean artists will take part in the exhibition which will allow its audience to experience Korean culture as well as participating in its various art workshops.

The artworks highlight the aesthetics of ‘Minhwa’, a folk Korean art used to decorate the traditional Korean house as well as celebrating birthdays and weddings.

The exhibition will feature Hanji artworks, distinguished by their bright colours and elegant designs. Known as a genuine component of traditional Korean culture, Hanji is a handmade paper made from the bark of the mulberry tree, and is characterized by flexibility, transparency, softness and moisture resistance.

Bojagi, used as wrapping clothes, will be presented as well. As time goes, bojagi has started to be recognized as an art with a modern sense. Participants can experience how the past and present combine freely in the artworks and be able to take part in the art craft workshop.

Exhibition goers of different age groups will also be able to experience wearing traditional Korean ‘Hanbok’ uniforms and taking memorial photographs inside the exhibition hall.

On Tuesday (May 24th), the annual K-POP World Festival, will take place in Opera House's Open-Air Theatre at 6 p.m. 14 youth teams will have the opportunity to showcase their passion for singing and dancing similar to the K-POP famous stars. The winners will be eligible to take part in the final round to be held in Korea.

Korean Culture Week will wrap up with a Korean musical concert by Ensemble SU on Monday, May 30th, at the Cairo Opera House’s Small Hall. The Korean band will perform a fusion music that blends of the Korean traditional instruments and western instruments.

Since being founded in 2015, Ensemble SU has been touring around the world to bring their blend of music to the ears of the masses.
