Khusanov Extends Manchester City Stay Until 2031

Uzbekistan international defender Abdukodir Khusanov has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City, extending his stay at the Premier League champions until the summer of 2031.

The 22-year-old centre-back, who joined City from French side Lens in January 2025, has quickly established himself as a key member of the first team. His previous contract had been due to expire in 2029.

Khusanov made 47 appearances for City and featured in 16 of the club’s final 19 Premier League matches last season. He also played in the team's victorious FA Cup and EFL Cup finals, forming a regular defensive partnership with Marc Guehi.

Manchester City praised the defender’s pace, composure, and defensive qualities, describing him as one of the Premier League’s most promising young defenders. 

He was also shortlisted for the club’s Player of the Season award for the 2025/26 campaign, finishing behind academy graduate Nico O'Reilly.

Speaking after signing his new deal, Khusanov expressed his delight at continuing his journey with City and said he is determined to secure a regular place under head coach Enzo Maresca.

“I've enjoyed every minute since arriving in Manchester. I keep improving as a player here and learn something new every day,” Khusanov said.

“Now I have a new challenge — to impress Enzo Maresca and his coaching staff so I can play regularly. I'm fully determined to achieve that.”

He also thanked City supporters for helping him settle in England and adapt to the Premier League, adding that he is focused on contributing to the club’s future success.

Director of Football Hugo Viana hailed Khusanov’s rapid development, saying the Uzbek defender possesses the physical and technical qualities needed to become a world-class player.

Khusanov has also become a key figure for the Uzbekistan national team, helping his country qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in its history. Before moving to England, he played for Lens and became the first Uzbek footballer to feature in the Premier League.
