Yoshimasa Hayashi, the Secretary-General of the Japanese government, announced today, Monday, that Japan's declared aid to Ukraine currently amounts to nearly $12 billion.

Hayashi stated in a press conference, "Up to this moment, our country has announced assistance to Ukraine totaling $12.1 billion, and we will continue cooperation, primarily with the United States and the Group of Seven countries, as well as partner nations, to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine."

The Japanese government had announced in December last year that it would assist Ukraine with $4.5 billion, with $1 billion directly and the rest through the World Bank.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had earlier announced that his country would expand sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine and continue comprehensive support for Ukraine.

Moscow had warned Tokyo last month against delivering "Patriot" missiles to Kyiv via Washington after the Kyodo news agency earlier reported that the Japanese government had relaxed rules for exporting defense equipment and approved a decision to deliver "Patriot" systems and missiles made in Japan under a US license.
