American actor Jake Gyllenhaal is in final talks to star in the live-action adaptation of Rob Liefeld's comic book, "Prophet".

Moreover, "Extraction" helmer Sam Hargrave is also near finalizing a deal to board the project as director.

The script has been in development by "Arrow" creator Marc Guggenheim.

Gyllenhaal will play John Prophet, a man who gains superhuman strength after being conscripted by the Germans and experimented on during World War II.

The movie is currently in development at Studio 8.

In 1995, Sony's TriStar acquired the rights to make a live-action Prophet movie, which Liefeld was set to serve as executive producer, but the studio ended up shuttering the project.

Gyllenhaal will also star in the survival thriller movie "Suddenly", the live adaptation of the graphic novel “Oblivion Song”, and Michael Bay’s action thriller “Ambulance” for Universal.
