Italian Film Festival to Kick off in Cairo on June 23

From June 23rd to July 7th, “The Italian Film Festival in Cairo” will take place for the first time in Cairo.

Organized in cooperation with Zawya Cinema and Distribution, the program of the screenings includes some titles by Pasolini (“Mamma Roma”, “Oedipus Rex”, “Accattone”, “The Gospel according to St. Matthew”), to celebrate the centenary of his birth, plus a selection of contemporary films by both well- established and emerging directors .

Among the contemporary titles, "A Chiara" by Jonas Carpignano will be screened, in the presence of actress Swamy Rotolo, winner of the best leading actress at the 43rd Cairo International Film Festival.

The selection includes also “Il Buco” by Michelangelo Frammartino, “Sow the Wind” by Danilo Caputo, “Futura” by Pietro Marcello, Francesco Munzi and Alice Rohrwacher “The King of Laughter” by Mario Martone and “The Tale of King Crab” by Aessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis.

The Festival will open with a concert by Maestro Colangeli and his fellow musicians on June 21st . The promotion of the Italian cinema however will continue later this year with the following initiatives:

- Collaboration with Cinema Culture Palace through a retrospective of Italian classics, from 5 to 9 June.

- Participation in the Panorama of the European Film

- Participation in the Gouna Film Festival: this year, as well as with a selection of films, also with a photographic exhibition dedicated to Pasolini and with the participation of some personalities from the world of cinema including actors and producers

- Participation in the CIFF (Cairo International Film Festival)

In addition to that, the Institute proposes its monthly screenings with the theme of “Grandi autori del cinema italiano – Great directors of Italian Cinema” in June and “Nuova Commedia Italiana – New Italian Comedy” in July.
