The Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that an investigation by the occupation army concluded that its soldiers opened fire in Rafah in violation of instructions, accidentally killing a UN employee.

The incident dates back to May 13, when Hebrew media said at the time that United Nations employees were injured on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, without indicating the responsible party.

At that time, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his deep sadness over the killing of a United Nations employee who was working in the Department of Safety and Security Affairs and the injury of another employee in an attack in the Palestinian city of Rafah.

In a statement issued by Farhan Haq, Guterres's deputy spokesman, and published on the official website of the United Nations, Guterres condemned all attacks on United Nations employees, calling for a full investigation, and offering his condolences to the family of the employee who was killed.

He renewed his urgent call for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons and the release of all “detainees,” as the conflict in Gaza continues to cause heavy losses, not only among civilians, but also among humanitarian workers.
