The Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation denied collecting canal lining fees, amounting to EGP 7,000 per feddan, from farmers.

In its response to the Cabinet Media Center, the Ministry stressed on Friday that farmers will not be charged with any fees in exchange for rehabilitation and lining of canals.

The ministry explained that the state bears all the costs necessary to implement the national project for the rehabilitation and lining of canals, estimated at EGP 18 billion for the first phase, indicating that the project is being implemented at the highest standards and according to a specific timetable.

In a related context, the national project aims to rehabilitate about 7,000 km of old canals at a total cost of EGP 18 billion by mid-2022 to help rationalize water uses, and solve water delivery problems.

Also, the irrigation scheme for agricultural lands is being counted at the level of the Republic in preparation for its rehabilitation, with the aim of developing the waterways network in an integrated manner.
