In the context of the celebration of the International Day of Yoga, which falls on June 21 of each year, the Indian Embassy in Egypt and the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), organized a special celebration for this occasion.
The Ambassador of India, the Minister of Youth and Sports and the artist Lekaa Elkhamissi attended the closing ceremony of the International Day of Yoga in Al-Azhar Park.
The celebration started from Al-Azhar Park, in the presence of the Egyptian Minister of Sports Ashraf Sobhy, the Indian Ambassador to Cairo Ajit Gupte, and the artist Lekaa Elkhamissi.
During the celebration, the Minister of Youth and Sports spoke about the importance of yoga in taking care of human health and clearing the mind. He said it is relaxing, confirming the Ministry of Youth's interest in the health of Egyptian youth.
On her part, the artist, Elkhamissi confirmed that she was pleased to be invited by the Indian embassy to participate in the celebration of the International Day of Yoga. She stressed the importance of yoga exercises in maintaining fitness and human health.
The celebration included a yoga session for an hour and a half in Al-Azhar Park. The Indian ambassador, members of the diplomatic corps at the embassy, a group of media professionals and representatives of sports clubs in Cairo and Giza participated in the session.
The session included an introductory presentation on the importance of yoga in treating diseases, clearing the mind and improving general health, as well as the arts of meditation and relaxation.
At the conclusion of the celebration, the Indian ambassador honored a number of personalities who contributed to the Egyptian sports federations and sports clubs that participated in the celebration.
The Indian ambassador said that June 21 is the International Day of Yoga after it was approved by the United Nations General Assembly during its 69th session in 2014. This was done based on a proposal made by India and adopted by 177 countries, including Egypt.
The ambassador pointed out that in this context, the embassy intends to organize a series of events in different regions around Egypt to celebrate that day.
He added that the embassy considers yoga as the gift of the ancient Indian civilization to the whole world. Yoga is concerned with the spiritual, mental and physical aspects of man. Hence, it helps people to adopt a healthy lifestyle in a way that contributes to promoting harmony between mind, soul and body.
