IFAD Invests US$ 203.47 Mln in Egypt's Rural Development Projects

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) sponsored three critical ongoing projects in Egypt; Promotion of Rural Incomes through Market Enhancement (PRIME) project; Sustainable Agriculture Investments and Livelihoods (SAIL); and the Promoting Resilience in Desert Environments (PRIDE), IFAD the delegation revealed.

These projects, which seek to contribute to the government's agricultural agenda of attaining food and nutrition security, focus on seven governorates: Qena, Sohag, Assiut, Minia, and Bani Seuf in Upper Egypt, and Behaira and Kafer EL-Sheikh in lower Egypt, according to IFAD.

IFAD's target groups include smallholders, landless laborers with a rudimentary education, unemployed youth, and rural women as well.

They noted that IFAD is investing US$ 203.47 million in these rural development projects out of a total cost of US$ 284.49 million. The projects are expected to benefit many rulers people in Egypt's rural areas, according to the Director of IFAD's Sustainable Production, Markets, and Institutions Division Thouraya Triki.

Speaking to Sada El-bald,  IFAD's Head of HUb/ Country Director Bernard Hien said: "We are investing in programs that will help Egyptians to cope with the current global climate change and end poverty by 2030 as part of their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
