The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) will be concluded today at the Cairo Opera House. This year, the festival features an impressive lineup of 194 films from 72 countries, showcasing a mix of innovative storytelling and diverse cultural narratives.

. "Hunting Daze" Makes Waves in Midnight Screenings

Last Wednesday, Annick Blanc's Canadian film *Hunting Daze* drew attention as part of CIFF's midnight screenings.

The 79-minute narrative dives into the life of Nina, who seeks a sense of belonging among fishermen in a secluded hut. As reviewers have noted, the film offers a stark yet poetic exploration of community and gender dynamics.

The tension escalates with the arrival of a mysterious outsider, resulting in a narrative both gripping and contemplative. Critics lauded its atmospheric visuals and nuanced performances, especially at its 6:00 pm showing in the Hanager Theater.

. Festival Opening and International Lineup

The festival began with the world premiere of *Passing Dreams*, a poignant Palestinian film directed by Rashid Masharawi. The movie delves into themes of displacement and resilience, earning praise for its heartfelt storytelling and compelling performances. Other international highlights include *Diaries from Lebanon*, a co-production that illuminates personal struggles in a post-crisis Lebanon, and *The Bridge*, which brings a fresh lens to regional narratives.

. Tribute to Cinematic Icons

This year’s CIFF honors Egyptian filmmaker Yousry Nasrallah with the Golden Pyramid Honorary Award for his groundbreaking work, including classics like *Summer Thefts*. Bosnian director Danis Tanović, famed for his Oscar-winning *No Man’s Land*, received the Faten Hamama Excellence Award. Both honorees have been celebrated for their enduring influence on global cinema.

. Reviews of Other Standouts

Among the festival’s standout films is *The Murderess*, a Greek drama lauded for its psychological depth and visual storytelling. Similarly, *September Says* has been praised for its emotional resonance, weaving themes of identity and cultural heritage. In the Critics’ Week Competition, *Brief History of a Family*, a multinational production, was noted for its layered exploration of intergenerational conflict. Beyond Screenings

In addition to films, CIFF offers workshops, panels, and discussions, giving attendees opportunities to explore topics like sound design, distribution, and storytelling. The festival also showcases restored classics, bridging contemporary audiences with the rich history of cinema.

The 45th CIFF exemplifies its commitment to celebrating cinematic excellence, fostering dialogue, and pushing creative boundaries on a global stage.
