The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) witnessed an unprecedented influx of visitors on Friday, with attendance surpassing the museum’s full operational capacity.

In response, museum management announced the temporary suspension of on-site ticket sales for the day to ensure a safe and smooth visitor experience.

In a statement released Friday evening, the museum’s administration said that, starting Saturday, November 8, and continuing on weekends and official holidays (Fridays and Saturdays), tickets will be available exclusively through the museum’s official website (www.gem.eg).

Under the new policy, ticket windows at the museum will be closed on these days, while online reservations will remain available throughout the week. On regular weekdays, visitors can still purchase tickets either online or at the museum, depending on capacity limits.

Museum officials emphasized that the decision aims to better regulate entry, maintain safety standards, and enhance the overall visitor experience in line with the museum’s capacity management plan. The move is also intended to improve service efficiency and provide guests with a more comfortable and enjoyable visit.

All previously confirmed bookings made through official channels remain valid, and visitors holding such tickets will be welcomed at their designated times without any change, the statement added.

The museum’s administration expressed gratitude to visitors for their understanding and cooperation, praising the overwhelming turnout that reflects the Grand Egyptian Museum’s growing reputation as one of the world’s most significant cultural and civilizational landmarks.
