Germany is preparing to approve €2.9 billion in military procurement, covering 11 major arms contracts that include drones, rifles and missiles, with much of the spending expected to benefit domestic manufacturers.

According to procurement documents reviewed by Bloomberg, the Ministry of Defence has asked parliament to authorize several purchases, including up to 250,000 G95 assault rifles from the German company Heckler and Koch.

The rifle order alone is valued at €765 million.

Lawmakers are expected to approve during a closed meeting next week, clearing the way for one of Berlin’s largest recent rounds of defense investment.

The move reflects Germany’s continued effort to modernize its armed forces and strengthen national defense capabilities amid heightened security concerns in Europe.
